April, 1973 NADA Official Used Car Guide

Since I tend to "hoard" stuff, and I use that term liberally, I came across the used car price guide, the kind used by dealers and lenders, for April of '73. I looked up my '69 C-10 SWB Fleetside and got the following pricing:

Av'g Trade-In $1125.
Av'g Loan $1025
Av'g Retail $ 1575

For the C-series trucks, having the CST package adds $25/25/50 to the three categories above. The Camper package adds $50/50/75. If it had a 3-speed gearbox, you deduct $75/75/75 from the values. If it had 4WD, you add $325/300/400, to the pricing. There was nothing in the book about A/C, P/B, or any other options except what I have mentioned. Nowadays, if it doesn't have A/C, Automatic, you deduct from the stated values.

Makes me want to go back in time, with some of todays' money that I have stashed!!

I am with you. Back in the day Mopar had trouble selling the superbirds because they were funky with that 2ft tall wing, now they go for 6 figures and up. I'd go back and buy as many Hemi cars and parts as possible, and a ZL1 COPO Camaro or two. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, outta!!! Damn the crap people scrapped back in the day is worth bank today and there are a lot of peeps out there kickin themselves, just watch Barrett Jackson auction for a few minutes and you'll see what I mean!!

I have stacks and stacks of dealer service bulletins. In 73 you could buy the am/fm pushbutton for the 67-72 for $12.00..ironically the van radio would run you $15.00.....

Re: April, 1973 NADA Official Used Car Guide

An update....in the front of the truck section, there is a generic pricing guide for engines, diesel/gasoline; power steering, etc. Based on year model, the price of V-8's varied based on displacement.

Now, if my memory serves me right, we were in the early throes of a gas crisis. I had just bought my first house and was sweating making the $112/mo payments, so I sold my '71 VW to the dealer and bought a '56 Chevy 210 series 4-dr wagon. I was happy.
