How much have you lost due to rust?

My son has lost approx $1.50 in change that fell out of his pocket and right out the hole in the pass side floor.
I think I have lost a tool or two out the floor as well.
This ever happen to you??

that's pretty sad, at least throw some wood or a sheet of thick rubber or something over it.

Re: How much have you lost due to rust?

My grandpa had and old 74 chevy on the farm, i remember riding in it on a gravel road when a rock came flying up through the hole in the floor!!! That truck was great, it had no brakes so ya had to gear it down with the automatic tranny. He decided to park it in the pasture / truck graveyard when the tranny started pissing oil out almost as fast as you could pour it in!

Re: How much have you lost due to rust?

I found a pair of needle nose rusted to the floor behind the gas tank from one of the previous owners! I had an 72 dodge with rusted out floors and I lost the window crank on the interstate.

I lost a zippo lighter out the floor of the longhorn not too long ago. I was doing about 90 or so...saw it bounce 8 or 9 times in the road then into the ditch...
wasn't worth stopping.

Hey! Welcome to the forum -- I think I've seen your truck in the park once or twice

I'm from out by Ardrossan, about 15 minutes east of the park

Re: How much have you lost due to rust?

When I was a kid, Dad had a '50 Plymouth 2-dr sedan. There was a small hole that developed, right behind the drivers seat, just where you would have to put your foot to climb in. As the car aged, it became my duty to keep MY foot over the hole to keep out the rain and "stuff". I was the oldest, and had the biggest foot, plus a propensity for pukin' in the movin' car....left me with a need to be near the door/window, etc.

Some people will tell you that they have lost the bottom quarter of the vehicle, due to rust. Have seen some pix on this website, of missing portions of the vehicles.

Found some stuff that people have lost, like a big ol' pair of channel locks, near a plumbers' shop, also a 14.4 Volt Ryobi light that I believe fell off of a guys boat, one evening.....just missed running over it so I picked it up at an intersection. Cost me almost $100 to get the charger for it, along with a new cordless drill and carrying case and two more batteries, and a 5-inch circular saw.

Re: How much have you lost due to rust?

You know, when bolts or tools or something like that are falling out of your truck onto the road, somebody else is running over them and having a really crappy evening putting on the spare tire and having to buy a new tire. We've all been there. Why not put a piece of duct tape or cardboard over the holes and save us all the hassle!?!

I'm with you on this one, but the only thing I replaced was the rockers so I got lucky The truck was pretty much rust free other than that.

Re: How much have you lost due to rust?

this reminded me, when i was doing the floors and rockers in the driveway, i would lock the truck up when i went in for the night. then i'd worry about people getting in from the huge hole in the floor lol.
