Question alternator charging system ???

i put in an alternator with a built in regulator new from the auto parts store
and i put jumpers on the old voltage regulator plug-- red wire to blue wire to etc. get 12 volts from the ignition to the new alternator. and put the blue and white wire on the plugs on the new alternator. and still am not getting 13- 14 volts off of the new alternator. what am i doing wrong? i have done all that was said to make a reg. with a built in reg. work.?????? aahhhhhhh!!!!

Did you take the ground from the harness and ground the case?

Andy, yes i did put the black wire from the harness and put it to the case on the alt. blue and white wire to the alt. and jumpers on the plug red to blue and brown to white on the harness plug to the old voltage reg. ????????????????????????????????????

Question

andy, blue wire to the top side of the alt. and white wire to the bot. plug with the new style harness for an alt.with a built in regulator. the alt. is new
?????????????????

Not quite folowing on the blug wires here...I put the blue wire to the red wire on the new pigtail..then the white to the brown.
you have the old reg harness done right from the sounds of it.

Check the back with a screwdriver...hold it by the center where the bearings are at. It should have a magnetic area while running it the thing isn't a turd.

I got 3 bad alternators in a row last year. This drove me crazy. I wouldn't believe anybody that told me that, but I can tell you first hand it did happen!. Make them take your New rebuilt alternator out of the box and test it BEFORE you leave the store. I did this on the last one and have had no problems since.

Are you checking it with the engine at idle?
Kick the rpms up a little, what does it put out then?

I too had a "new" alt that was bad. Just because a part is new, doesn't mean it's good.
