Tailgate handle relocation patch

This is a qyestion for those who have relocated the tailgate handle to the inside. What do you do for a patch panel when you move the latch?

Re: Tailgate handle relocation patch

Are you wanting to just cover the small handle opening area, or the whole bottom half of the tailgate? Some kits, including Mar-K kits, have part of the relocated handle mechanism that protrudes through the original handle opening so you can't use a small patch that just covers the handle hole. Be sure to check it out before you buy. We have tailgate covers and weld in panels that are generally used with our handle relocator kits. http://www.mar-k.com/tailgate_covers___weldins.pdf

Re: Tailgate handle relocation patch

I guess I am cheap. I don't want to pay the price for an OEM gate just to hack a patch out of it. NOW if someone has a gate that is not usable & wants to cut a patch out, that's a different story

Try Sir Michael's part # 2876118 for around $60. Fits 67-80 GM trucks (Chevy/GMC). This is just a patch that needs to be welded in, will have close to the same contour. I've used their products before, they're pretty good quality.

If you don't want to do just a small patch, consider doing a whole tailgate skin - it tacks in at the ends giving a perfectly smooth look without the hassle of warpage in the middle.

Look for part #2876117 on that page for an example picture - cost is $115.

All of these parts are available on the web from places like Stylin Concepts and whatnot. Some board vendors might even carry em.
