Driving lights in the bumper?

I have a decent driver 72 bumper. Considering putting it on my truck and mounting driving lights. Anybody else done this?

I say gopher it! I always thought it would be a cool idea if you could make it look stock, maybe use some 69-70 clear turn signal lenses...

was on mine , front end off know ...... bumper cut with 4 in round light .

I was thinking about that. I think the stock lights in my 68 grill and clear ones in a 71-72 bumper for driving lights.

the lenses would spread the light way too much to be used as a driving or even a fog light, but if you were to find some kind of light that would fir in there say at wall mart or something, it may look ok.

You'll need 71-72 outer mounting brackets to go along with that bumper.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but it's dangerous to drive with dim white lights on the front of your vehicle. It can cause a head-on collision when the driver of an oncoming car wants to pass another, and he mistakes your dim white lights 1/4 mile up the road for a pair of bright headlights a half-mile away and thinks he has room to pass. That's why they changed to amber parking lights in the '60s. They couldn't convince people to quit driving with their parking lights on (it's illegal, but nobody enforces it), so they changed the color.

A driving light or fog light would not be dim, they are actually quite bright.

I wasn't planning on replacing my headlights, simply adding driving lights to the front of the truck. I live in a rural area and need all the light I can muster.

Gotcha. I thought you meant the type of always-on white front lights seen on some of the later-model GM cars. If you put some serious lights in the bumper, you MUST post the results.

All of our parking (or Side) lights as we call em in the UK are plain white and TBH I've never know this kind of accident to happen in my 22 years of driving. Maybe this comes down to driver discipline in using dipped headlights as soon as it gets dark.

That's the one I saw that gave me the idea to mount lights in the 72 bumper I have. I have the correct brackets as well so it will be a simple swap, just need to find lights that look decent.

On this side of the pond, a good many people seem to think it's a smart thing to drive around with their parking lights on from late afternoon until it's almost totally dark. It's been illegal in Louisiana since 1965 or so, but they still do it. Amber parking lights at least let you know you're dealing with an idiot, but several late-model GM products use white ones that are spaced much closer together than the headlights. I almost nailed one of those head-on a couple of years ago.
