Lead fuel additive
What engines need to have the Lead fuel additive added to the fuel and which ones dont? I have a 70 C10 with the 307/ 2 bbl carb and a friend said that it is supposed to run with the lead mixture.
I had a 78 Dodge motor home that had to have it, or it ran like crap, just like my truck runs now. The motor home had a 440 commercial in it. Thanks!

Re: Lead fuel additive
IIRC, the 70 was built with hardened exhaust valve seats, which are needed for burning unleaded fuel. Also, if the head has been rebuilt in the last 20 years, any decent machine shop would have put hardened valve seats in an older head. The 78 would have hardened seats, the use of leaded fuel in big trucks had been outlawed by then.
