Gas tank is leaking - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Yep, thats right, I thought it was leaking so today I took it out and sure enough its leaking at a spot that the po had patched once before. Anybody got any suggestions about what to use to fix it and where I could get something from to fix it here in S.C.. I would go ahead and put the tank under the bed if I had one handy or hadn't already taken mine out so I could get one from a blazer, But I can't so any help is appreciated.

Use one of those gas tank sealer kits. They come with a cleaner, etching liquid, and an epoxy coating.

Another option is to take it to a radiator shop and have them seal the inside with solder.

what kind of sealer kit are you talking about? Are you refering to por15 or is there another one ?

I just replaced my tank that had been re-sealed. The liner was breaking down due to chemicals in gas. I would just replace it if you can.

I used an epoxy sealer on one once.I don't remember the nname but I had a leak and no other way to work.It worked even wet(as the label said it would).It held for about 2 weeks before I replaced the tank so I have no idea if it would have worked permanately.It was a 2 part style gummy epoxy.

I bought some permatex tank sealer. I kneeded it, cleaned the surface real good but it still leaked,I'm going to go ahead and replace the tank as soon as I can. If I use a k5 blazer tank and put it under the bed, do I need a special sending unit or just use the one that comes in the tank?
I know where there is several k5's, 80-90 model year, I guess they would work. Has anybody used one of these?

Throw it away! It is just going to leak in another spot. Get a good clean used tank and move on.
Check the replacement tank by removing the sender and look inside to make sure it is clean...no rust or crud.

JB weld will work. i used it on one of mine.
