hood hinge question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My hood wont go all the way down at the back, and I've done all the adjusting I can (I think)... my hinges are the originals from 72.

The hinge pivots seem tight, but I haven't had the springs off to really test them well.

Should I just be able to replace the springs to remedy the problem, or am I better off getting new hinges and springs..???

Thanks for any input...

Oil all of the pins and see what happens.

If oiling the hinges doesn't get you all the way there, try loosening the two rear-most bolts that attach the hinge to the fender, and lower the back of the hinge. Then retighten the hinge. If you do it too much, the hood will be too tight in the back. If that doesn't give you enough adjustment, leave the back bottom bolt tight and loosen the other two bolts and raise the front of the hinge and retighten the bolts. If the hinges are high in the front and low in the back, this will give you the maximum amount of adjustment.

Thanks all for the tips, I'll hit the pivots with some oil and try it again...

So worn out springs would have nothing to do with this problem...???
