Lowered BBC, and Frame off-ers

This truck project is going to drive me further over the edge of sanity...anyways I have a couple of questions, first off, I plan on dropping the front of my truck 3-4inches, well already from time to time when I hit a bump in the road the bottom of the collectors on my headers hit. I think I remember something about someone running a pair of car headers, like maybe from a chevelle? Does anyone know about this or can point me in the right direction?

Question 2-I am wanting to replace the leaf spring bushings, How do you do this? I got a propane tourch and a press, any pointers? And what about the A-arm bushings? Should I replace them now or just not worry about it?

Thanks for any help guys.

Re: Lowered BBC, and Frame off-ers

If it a big block , a set of Hooker Competition (NOT SUPER COMPS)headers for a 68-72 Chevelle or a 70 -74 Camaro will do what you want (same part number ). They have 2 inch primaries and 3.5 inch collectors I think and fit just about level with the frame rails . You will have to trim the driver side frame rail on top to clear one of the tubes . A friend ran these on his truck with good results and the headers are big enough to let a nice BB breathe . His truck was an 82 SWB and I dont ever remember them dragging . I have seen the same application used for small blocks also but I dont know what trimming , if any , is required . Frank

Someone on this board is running those headers but I dont remember exactly who . Maybe AIRMALE (Sp?) . You might search the board . There was a discussion about them around 6 months ago . Frank

Thanks, anyone know about the leaf spring bushings? I know some one around here has changed them before.

Re: Lowered BBC, and Frame off-ers

The Hooker comps, NOT SUPERCOMPS work. I believe it's part number #2455. 2"primaries and 3 1/2" collectors full length and tuck up between the frame.

Re: Lowered BBC, and Frame off-ers

My friends notch was on the top of the frame where the tube comes down from cylinder 7 . Airmales doesnt look notched in the pic so maybe it isnt necessary . It was a very small notch and my friend may have just thought he needed to notch it . Frank
