Kinda Weird Find ........need info

Cruisin home after another wonderful 12 hr night shift and spotted this yellow truck nose peeking out from the side of a shed so I stopped and talked to the owner he is an older fellow and said I could have the truck after his boys pull the water well drilling rig off the back just to get it out of his yard good price, but I saw something odd the rear diff is a wide five bolt pattern looks like the type typically found under the larger trucks of the 50's and 60's I have a similar rear under a 67 F600 dump was curious if this could be an odd factory rear or if someone just swapped a heavier rear for the massive rig on the back. The truck is 157 inch wheelbase and frame is in great shape cab is fair for around here and front clip is 68 that is teee-rashed !!! any info is greatly appreciated Mike

Yes but I don't know what year or what size. Some of the newer and larger Step Vans like the city utilities use have a large diameter 10 bolt wheel. IIR the front uses all 10 and the rear only 5. The wheels are dually style and can be used front or back.

Hope this helps a little - Bob

i looked at buying a c50 this summer and i'm sure it had a wide 5 pattern on the rear . so 2 and 2 1/2 ton may use that set-up . ( i think ) . good luck.

Re: Kinda Weird Find ........need info

TNBLAZERK5 I am 100% sure this truck had the wide five lug rear and eight lug front that is what had me wondering what was up thanks for the pics the front is the same as on the rear of this truck only a pair of duals .

Dean the truck supposedly is a factory cab and chassis truck no idea about longhorns thats why i am asking as I am not really sure what this thing is thanks for your reply will post pics after I get it home Mike

Re: Kinda Weird Find ........need info

Sounds to me like someone swapped rear axles at some point. I don't think G.M. ever built a truck with 8 lugs on the front axle and 5 on the rear. Many 1.5 tons had 5 in front and 10 in the rear up until 2002, like the above pictures, but they did use the same wheels all the way around.

Re: Kinda Weird Find ........need info

Hey Bob is it possible to run just 5 out of the ten lugs on the rear and leave the others out ? Cause it did appear to have holes between the five lugs come to think of it ! doh !!!! would've been helpful to mention that before hunh ?? But that still doesn't explain the 8 lug front unless this truly is a 68 and they swapped to a later front susp to get disc brakes maybe ?

Re: Kinda Weird Find ........need info

IH and Ford used wide-5 lug patterns on their 1ton trucks well into the 60s.It`s probably one of those. They would have similar yoke and spring dimensions and came with 1ton wheel sizes.
