Woodgrain moulding fix?
I was wondering if anyone has heard of someone making new woodgain decal product. I was told by an older friend they used to make this to replace the peeling decal on the lower mouldings rather than replace the entire moulding, you could just buy it in a roll. I went to 3m today and the guy almost laughed out loud and said that they havent made it in years. But everyone else I talk to says it is still made. Any help?

Re: Woodgrain moulding fix?
i've also used the original GM product. it came in a roll about 14-18 inches tall, and was designed for the woodgrained sides on station wagons. i had to cut it into strips to fit, but it worked very well. i put it on about 10 years ago, and it still looks fine.

Re: Woodgrain moulding fix?
3M made some called Dinoc. I have an old roll of it that was supposed to be used for a Ford, I believe. I haven't looked at the can, lately (like the past 10 years).
An old friend took some of the same product, and covered all of the window frame mouldings in his '51 Chevy 2-dr sedan. This was to replace the lost woodgraining that had been on them, when new. He used a heat gun to make the vinyl pliable, then formed it to the metal and it stuck like glue...which is what is on the back.

Re: Woodgrain moulding fix?
The original GM mouldings had a clear cover tape over the wood grain tape. It held up pretty good without yellowing but after 30+ years, it deserves to crap out a bit. You can get a wood grain style tape in most fabric or craft places. Not sure how well it will hold up but if it gives you a few years, it is probably worth it. Just need to get the right shade of wood. Biggest hassle is getting the trim off and back on without damaging the paint.

Re: Woodgrain moulding fix?
I used the woodgrain tape to freshen up my tailgate molding (which is a different height tape than the sides use). I think I got it from Chevy Duty.

Re: Woodgrain moulding fix?
See Ten- Your tailgate molding looks excellent. How did you fit it around the Chevrolet letters?

We carry it for the tailgate bands and the lower side molding.

Re: Woodgrain moulding fix?
The OEM ones are riveted on! I ended up finding a better used one instead for my truck.

Re: Woodgrain moulding fix?
Thanks for the info on the tailgate band. Since I have the OEM piece, guess I'll search for a better one. Take care.........
