What would you do?

I found a 72 chevy custom camper for $2000. It is complete running truck. It really only needs a drivers front fender that the guy hit as he was pulling in his driveway. It is a Rust Free 3/4 ton, Working AC, Tach Dash, Big Block, Turbo 400. I want to take the cab and engine and tranny and put it in my 70 short/step.
I dont like long beds, or 3/4 tons. I have always wanted a big block and this one runs strong. It is all stock with a good bed with the tool box that runs along the bottom of it. I would part out the rest of the truck and what parts I didnt need from my truck.
Now, What would you do?

Re: What would you do?

Sounds like a great deal. It also sounds like you know you want to do it. You should be able to make it pay for it self between the parts you can sell off of it and trhe ones you replace on your short/step. You might even come out money ahead.

Re: What would you do?

I would buy it..assembling all the parts to complete the swap can be an expensive PITA. Best if you have a complete donor.

Re: What would you do?

Sounds like a sweet deal to me, wish you were closer so I could score some parts off you.

Re: What would you do?

if that tool box door is rust free, you can just name your price and you'll get it. People will pay stupid money for those... we're talkin barret jackson stupid kind of mony...maybe not, but it's a good comparison.

You could try driving it for a couple months... you might actually like it.

Re: What would you do?

Sounds like too nice a truck to part out , fix the fender detail the %^&* out of it, and resell it . I just went and looked at a 72 bb ac truck here in town , orig from Cali , repaint , no tool box , owner was asking $6500 . You probably could get $ 4500 - 5000 . That would pay for some parts . My .02

Re: What would you do?

Buy it. Move your parts, and try to sell for even money or better.

Re: What would you do?

I am going to buy it for sure, I think.
I was wondering about parting out a truck that was so complete with some cool goodies on it. Heck I might even swap out the parts that I want and make another daily driver while I build mine up. I will get some pics when I get over there again. Thanks for the input guys!

Re: What would you do?

Sounds like a plan,either way.I did something like that except I didn`t have the shortbed truck.It was a`69 long Stepside CST/20 with a 396,TH400,a/c,and rustfree.I back-halfed it with a 4 link/narrowed Dana60,swapped-in dropped 1/2t spindles&brakes,and put a Stepside on it.It was an easy pro-street project.
