Satantic headers!

Well, I'm typing this with whats left of the stubs that use to be my hands.

I got my order from Summit yesterday, which is always a happy day for me.
In said order, among other things, were my brand spanking new Dynomax headers, whoooopie I thought to myself. That was the last happy thought I had that day.

"Easy to install" it said. Riiiiiiiiiiiiight!

Now I'm not a newbie to headers, Its usually the first thing we do, (even Mrs.C. has installed them for me when I was busy) but these.....these headers are something different!

I was upside, sidewase, insideout, .....I think at one point I actually had the truck off all four wheels! OMG!!!!!!! I had to unhook EVERYTHING, and I do mean EVERYTHING on the drivers side. The only thing left was the motor mount. All day, it took me ALL day to get the drivers side in, and its still not bolted, but its in place, I even broke of my dipstick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I'm off to see what the other side is going to be like, pray for me.

Re: Satantic headers!

sounds like you should've undone the motor mount first used an engine hoist to lift slightly and slid the header in

Re: Satantic headers!

bill...I was thinking of farmer fram as I read that too! That dude was funny.

That's pretty sad what you have to do with some headers... please tell me you are dealing with a big block... if that's a small block, then it's just stupid to have to do all that.

Re: Satantic headers!

Well I just came back from THE test drive ( I just got the truck running....kinda) and it does sound much better! I put some "Flowtech purple hornies" on it, It just had the stock, single exhaust.
Smoked my new plug wires...duh.
I will have to remove the pass side to change no 3 spark plug, but its new now. You also have to take off my valve covers to change oil so I cant wait to take it to walmart to get the oil changed hehehehe.

Its the original 67 283 w/4speed and the clutch linkage was a major pain!
Dont remember the part no. on the headers, but I called summit and told them what truck I have and they sent em to me. My dads got Dynomax on his 68, and we had NO problem putting them on. But I have read that my 67 frame is bigger then his 68 and you dont have much header clearance at all.

Anyway, I'll get a new set of header wires and go from there.

I'm taking a break for a bit though first.

Re: Satantic headers!

I didn't notice the 67 part or 4 speed... those DO make it a little hairy in there.
You can remove the sparkler with an open end wrench instead of removing the header.
