I'm thinking on putting installing the paint divider chrome that goes below the rear window and across the back side of the cab. How is this attached? My truck never had this option. I'm maybe thinking that there are pins that are welded on the cab to install the clips to. Is this right? If that is the case, how would I attached these pieces to the cab seeing that I don't have those pins? Would some type of rivet work? Oh, I do have the clips for the chrome pieces. They look to be made of plastic.

Mine was the same way. When you buy the chrome new, it comes with the plastic clips, all you need to do is locate where each clip goes, and then use a #10 screw (I think that is the right size screw) to hold each clip to the cab.

So, you have to drill the correct size hole to except the screws, that excepts the clips? I think I said that right.............hehe

I always wondered about adding it to truck that did not have it originally. Thank you John for the heads up.

I wonder what is best way to seal up the holes after hole is drilled and when screw goes in. Sounds like a likely spot for the rust and water to get access to cab.

I always thought about locating the orginal stud locations for teh plastic clips and trying to find the right nail head that looks like orignal stud and somehow weld them in place. If screw kit has screw heads that fit inside the plastic clips that could be much easier solution if it can be sealed up.

IIRC GM used a little pin with a nail looking head on it. Anyone know how they were attached originally?

If that's the case, I think they were originally spot welded in. Now that I know how they came from the factory, I know what to do. I'll most likely use some epoxy on the screws before installing them into the holes on the cab. I think that will stop any rust from starting.......

I did seal my screws when I installed them. and Yes, original tabs are welded on.
