Please help...

just got a new clutch at aamco 2 weeks ago....tonight my one month old hurst 3 speed shifter started acting up, when i would accelerate then let off to decelerate i would hear horrific grinding from the transmission...later on tonight, on the highway, raced my friends 72 stang...im in third and trying to let it out and into second to go again and i cant even move the shifter...its like it locked up on me, stiff as a brick....i can unbolt the shifter plates from the tanny and move the shifter, but it wont come out of third gear???WHY???? so i fu**ed my clutch trying to get it to roll up the highway and running all red lights and stops signs on the way home... Can anyone please please please tell me if this is a tranny problem or a shifter problem which i doubt because i can move the shifter when not connected to the transmission...if it is a tranny problem, wtf is wrong with it, new clutch new shifter, and aamco said everything else was fine when they went to put the new clutch in...sooo its up to yall to tell me where to go from here...thanks - Mark Taylor-

Re: Please help...

check the adjustment of the clutch it could be out of a justment get someone under the truck to watch as you press the clutch in and make sure it is releasing all the way if it is then you probley got a trans problem if its stuck in 3rd sounds like a shinco went bad i had one go bad in my 3 speed expect it got stuck in frist everyone wanted 800 buxs to fix it so i said forget it i founda used one for 75 buxs and lots of people have them laying around so find someone near you that got a 3 speed tranny get it from them install it and see what happend just my $.02

Re: Please help...

Have you checked the lube in the trans? I used to manage a trans shop and periodically an employee would fail to top off after a clutch job and we would end up buying a trans. Happened once on an Audi fwd, that hurt.

I THINK WHAT YOU MEAN TO SAY IS SYNCRONIZER OR SYNCRO. FOR SHORT. DON'T TAKE THIS IN A NEGATIVE WAY, BUT UP IN THE UPPER RIGHT HAND OF THIS WINDOW YOU WILL SEE A LITTLE ABC ABOVE A CHECK MARK. IT'S A SPELL CHECKER. YOU HAVE TO DOWNLOAD A PROGRAM, BUT IT'S FREE. JOHN

Re: Please help...

go out and check it if it is low take it back to the trans shop and tell them they owe you a transmission one its stuck in a gearbecause your shifter linkage is out of adjustment then it or the synchronizer went bad which would cause the grining sounds btw this is my last post on this topic because above people can't be nice and i not going to get into a battle of wits and being smart because i not going to get baned. gl speed and hopes all get fixed quicky

Re: Please help...

I`m enjoying this post for the wrong reason.I agree,If it ain`t the seencrows,it`s that big nut behind the steering wheel.Depending on your size,it`ll take 200 ft/lbs +or- to get out of the truck.
