69 Short Step Resto in progress pics

Here are a few pics of my work in progress. Im just starting and this is the first 67-72 Resto I have attempted (ATTEMPTED). I found yesterday that you have to take the truck half apart to get to where you can work on removing the Rocker Panel. I guess I am used to working on the 60-66 more. I am learning though!!!!

Seen too many of those rusted out lips on the box fronts. I don't know if I might have a better one you could have but it is not worth shipping. Are you building a show truck or a hauler? Hauler...just weld a new piece of angle on there...LOL! Looks like fun!

Just noticed you are in Portland! There is great fabricator in your area by the board name of FrizzleFry. He is doing some very impressive work on a killer '62-'66 short step. He has some great '67-'72 rides as well.

What part of Portland are you in?

Re: 69 Short Step Resto in progress pics

Frizzle is who I bought the truck from. I already have a new front bed panel and a new rear cross support coming for the bed. I would rather take out 8 bolts than try to fab in a new piece of sheetmetal. But thanks for the info. Its not going to be a show truck but I wont be ashamed to show it when I get done. It will be a realy nice sunny day driver is what I would call it. I am going to paint it Gards Red with a Gray leather interior.

Good to know she found a good home The bed is from a different truck and the cab is in better shape than the bed. That was my first 67-72 and I was not happy about selling it. Hopefully I'll get visitation rights

I dont know if my son would agree with you on the good home. He is doing most of the grunt work. The bolt twister. Someone has to supervise and I am older than him. We will give it our best shot Frizzle Fry. Door is always open if you want to come and check out the progress.

Re: 69 Short Step Resto in progress pics

It good to know Im not in the boat alone. When you start something like a restoration it can get a bit overwelming when you start to tear it apart and find all the things that need to be done to put it right. I think my biggest dillema is lack of space in my 2 car garage. I know you cant tell from the pictures but there is 2 and a half trucks in there. I have my sons 64 shortwide, the 69 Short Step and the cab and frame of my 1956 Short Step Bigwindow all crammed in there. It has turned into a constant shuffle of parts to make things fit. Oh yeah and not loose my mind when a door gets knocked over and gets a big ding in it (MORE BODYWORK). I guess practice makes me better at it. Well enough of my snivling, Im sure others have it worse. I will be posting more pictures as I get farther along in the process of rebuilding the 69. I would also like to say this website is great. I have learned a great deal from reading and replies to question I have posted. I would Like to thank the people who have helped and gave suggestions.
