Roll-down Door Glass Question

I'm doing the seals on my driver's side door today, and was wondering if the roll down door glass is supposed to be glued on to the metal piece on the bottom edge that interacts with the window regulator? There's a piece of rubber between the glass and the metal piece, but the window lifted out easily and was just thinking about most other vehicles I've been into the doors on have the glass secured better than this?

I didn't notice and problems with rolling the window up and down, but rattling around has been a problem because of the lack of felt on the bottom edge of the door.

I've got the factory set-up w/quarter windows and all, but I'd be interested in what are all you 1 piecers doing for this also?

I guess there's some adhesive for this? Is this a trip to the hardware store, or the Chevy dealer?

Liquid nail.

Put it a small amount so that it doesn't squeeze out and become visable. It will flex and expand/contract with your rubber.

I used 3M Auto Glass/Windshield adhesive from the NAPA store. It is sticky black stuff that comes in a tube.

I'll have to get some of the 3m stuff anyway for my front windshield - it's leaking, so I just get that and have it on hand. I like the liquid nails idea, I've already got a small tube of it somewhere here, but I don't think I'd use it on my front windshield, it holds too good. I just don't want to get one of the adhesives that's made for the new cars where the window glass is actually make the body structurally stronger

I dont think that is glue....I think that is the same stuff that holds your vent windows in the metal frame...I think it is called glazing tape...go to an auto glass installer store and buy a 2ft. piece. It may cost you $1.00, and it holds like crazy.....Bring your glass and frame so they can give you the right thickness tape....

72-stomper, you're right, I called around and finally went to a glass installer. They had 4 different thicknesses of tape and said they could be activated by brake cleaner among other things. (They also use the previously mentioned products, but not for installing the side glass). I wish I'd have seen you're post before I went though, I didn't bring the glass or the frame. The installer didn't mention having different thicknesses, and I should've known to bring the part in with me.

Oh well, I've managed to turn a 4 hr. job (?) into a at least a 3 day job. First unexpectedly had to break out the welder and fill in a couple of mirror screw holes that didn't need to be there, then I saw the door had a crack in it under the quarter window, so I had to fix it also. Then, I look and see how much surface rust there is inside the door, might as well hit it with some Metal Ready and tomorrow some POR 15.

It probably makes the tape a little slick so the glass slips in easier, and a little sticky so it sticks better after it dries. High-tech, for sure.

Maybe there's different types of glazing tape - the kind they had was dry and not sticky, and required a solvent to "activate it". Supposed to be able to move the glass into place, and once dry, not going to be able to move it any time soon. Supposed to be pretty messy.

glazing tape swells with oil or brake fluid,soo the oil or brake fluid acts as lube when installing the glass in the channel,then it will cause the tape to swell up and hold the glass tightly...
