Re: Best Place To Buy LS1 Engine mounts

See my signature for the LS1 tech thread. I got the ECE mounts - $250, but worth every freaking penny. I had to drill two holes in the front crossmember, the rest was a direct bolt-in. Also, see my gallery for more pictures of my LS1 upgrade.

What about tranny mounts for the 4l60, Will the stock one work?

Re: Best Place To Buy LS1 Engine mounts

the stock automatic tranny crossmember will work (may not bolt up in the stock framerail holes, be forewarned) and any stock mount will work. I personally recommend the Energy Suspension mount, it's here:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...8&autoview=sku

$20...not bad price. Should bolt right up. It accepts a one-hole or two-holed crossmember.

Re: Best Place To Buy LS1 Engine mounts

shifty is correct in his statement, however, you can opt to install a "caprice" style tailshaft for the 4L60/700R4...that will allow the mount to be repositioned on the tailshaft...which will allow the STOCK TH-400 holes to be utilized. Moving the mount to this position will allow the trans pan to be removed without loosening the crossmember. It is however, not cheap on the 4L60 due to the reluctor ring, 700R4...is very cost effective.

Re: Best Place To Buy LS1 Engine mounts

street and performance also has a lil black box that wires into the speed sensor on the trans, then you can hook your cable into the lil black box. spendy.....they also have a tailshaft that has a speedo cable input....also not cheap. www.hotrodlane.cc

Re: Best Place To Buy LS1 Engine mounts

You can use the LS1 with a 700R4 or the TH350, but you gotta convert to a carburetor. This allows you to also ditch all of the wiring and crap - this entire upgrade/install was in one of the Classic Truck/CCT type magazines around September/October of last year. I have a copy laying around somewhere (damn, that reminds me, I owe someone here some scans....)

Re: Best Place To Buy LS1 Engine mounts

You dont have to convert to a carb. You have to have the computer reprogrammed to think you have a manual transmission.

Re: Best Place To Buy LS1 Engine mounts

the 4L60e requires a computer....you can get a standalone controller from either GM or compushift. The compushift version allows for tailoring the trans to your liking, I have no experience with the GM version. The 700R4 requires a lock-up circuit (internal or external) for the torque converter to function correctly. The 700R4 is an easy mod, the 4L60e requires some expensive extras...check out www.jagsthatrun.com for some interesting reading apply what you need for the transmission.
I have the 4L60e w/computshift....The tailshaft drives the standard mechanical speedometer, but the reluctor ring sensor has been installed into a seperate machined fitting on the tailshaft. No extra box required using this method. Trans was purchased from PheonixTrans in weatherford, TX.

That's another possibility also, but for those of us who'd rather not dork with the wiring and computer, the option given in that magazine article is much more appealing.

Re: Best Place To Buy LS1 Engine mounts

How are you removing vats without a reprogram? Are you using a carb?

Re: Best Place To Buy LS1 Engine mounts

VATS is vehicle anti theft, most people use LS1Edit to remove VATS, I think? There is a terminator or something you can use as well.

The upside to keeping the computer and wiring is simple: fuel injection, engine monitoring, fast startups and fuel economy.

The downside is costly programming/reprogramming (you buy the software for $1k or more and learn to hack or you pay someone $100+ each time to flash it), having to bypass things, keeping the computer in a safe place, hacking wiring harnesses, etc.
