gearing help

okay my friend has a 1967 chevy c-10 was a 3speed but was converted to turbo 350 with 327 2 barrel carb. anyway the truck always redlines every gear. and it jerks when in reverse. looking at having it rebuilt soon but is the redlining a gearing problem inb the trans or the rearend?

Re: gearing help

Trans is my guess. About the only thing that would cause a rearend to slip would be a broken axle in an open carrier.

Re: gearing help

After you described it a little more I think I see what's going on now.
Your first description made me think it was just reving too high..as in wrong gearing.
Sounds to me like the vac mod is unplugged. Since it is probably warm where you are at, you can simply crawl under and look at the hose.
If it is cold/wet, or you are in a hurry...or lazy liek me, you can just drive it like a stick shift. Start in first, and rev it just a tad higher than where it should shift, then put it in second...same for third. No need to down shift coming to a stop, the tranny will take care of that... but you'll have to upshift again after taking off.

Re: gearing help

Gotta agree with Andy. Sounds like the vacuum modulator is either bad or disconnected.
