Project "Pack Rat"
After posting a couple pics of this truck several months ago, the majority of the board suggested keeping the old truck and restoring it. After much thought and much more convincing my wife that it would be a great Dad and son (14yo) project, we started to tear the truck down. I couldn't believe the amount of bolts that would not unscrew and we ended up cutting. The plan is to remove everything to the frame, sandblast the frame and start back up. So far I found that I need to replace the radiator support, inner front fenders, rockers and small amount of floor. The drip rails need reworking and I might put in new cab corners while the cab is off. I'm hoping the axels, transmission and tranfer case are in good condition. The PO said that it was running fine when he parked it several years ago. Anyway that's where I'm at at this point. I'm posting pics of the truck and what I've done so far. In case you are wondering about the name "Pack Rat"...it came from an old 4x4 swamp buggy that my family used in the 60's to take hunters into the swamp to their stands. It had tractor tires on it and would go through hell and back. lol

lottsa work but if you can keep your boy on task with that rig and keep him interested, it will work wonders on helping him stay away from those activities kids get into that us parents worry about. looks like you have a similar truck to refer to when you get stumped on this one. have fun.

Ooops. I accidently threw in a pic of a '70 short step that I might buy for the parts. This truck has a 350 engine that has been rebuilt and runs great. I could use the engine and front cap although one of my fenders might be in better shape than his. Possible could use the rear fenders and tailgate also. Really don't have any use of the rest of the truck...but he is also giving me several doors, a rear fender and a grill whether I buy the truck or not. I think I could buy the truck for $1000-$1200. Here are some more pics.

If you have a place to work on the truck, and a son that is interested in vehicles, by all means fix it up!!! My dad and I have worked on a lot of stuff together since we got the shop around 5 years ago, and it really is good to spend time with each other. Without that garage, I probably be playing video games 24/7 and be as big as a Mack truck. Seriously. Doesn't matter what you work on or how mad it makes you, you're still spending time with each other. Additionally, your son could learn some new words.

That short step would go for ,2500 easy, as is ,in the other LA (Los Angeles)
