1971 c20 oil pan removal - how?

My chilton manual states that the engine mount bolts must be removed and engine jacked in order to remove the oil pan, is this true? Any shortcuts? I wanna check for sludge, and clean the oil pump pickup.

TIA

Re: 1971 c20 oil pan removal - how?

i've always unbolted the towers from the frame lifted the engine enough to get a 2X4 block under the tower and unbolted the pan// lifes alot easier if you use a 1/4" drive rachet with a 6-9"extension to remove the bolts also get the felpro 1piece gasket set makes putting the pan back alot easier too cause they include these plastic stud things to hang the pan for installation
