Hi,
I have a stock L-6 in my 1970 Custom / 10 with 39k original miles. When I pulled it out of a tobacco barn, it had the original tires and dated spark plug wires. After a major tuneup - it runs like new. Keeping the six! Just about to put it back on the road. Mine has a tall gear as well - need to drop it down to a 3:xx or so. Frank

I6's have gobs of power if your do it right
My 292 has plenty of power, specs are in my sign. I really wish that I could have got a ring and pinion 3.07 in my rear before I come up to college, but thats life. A 5 speed would be idea cause I would retain the 4th for really big loads. I would say it would pull almost anything in 4th. The i6 design is really good. Why do you think that cummins is able to get 560 ft/lbs. at 1400 rpm. Thats the kind of torque these things put out. Maybe 450 from a 292 if you do it extreme. Thats why im wanting to build a jeep with a cummins 12 valve, 5 speed and transfer case from a 90 dodge. of course it will get a tune up and garennted it will climb any mountain you through at it.

I'm about to rebuild the L-6 292 that was in my truck when I bought it.
In '77, I pulled it and stored it when I had just finished rebuilding a '67 292 .030-over, w/forged TRW pistons, all the rest stock and heavy duty. Offy 4Bbl intake, Clifford Research headers, Mallory coil, Holley 4160. Ran like a beast until this summer. Then after a tankful of wallyworld's cheapest gas, it started to go sour. It wouldn't tune up. I've been on it since late July. Turns out, the harmonic balancer went bad and ground into the timing gear_cover. After a new HB, I changed out distributor, and all ignition components, rebuilt the 390 Holley but it still wouldn't run right. Now I've sunscoped it and the shop guys found cyls 3 + 4 were dead. I will troubleshoot for mice, rags, FOD in the intake, then check out valve springs and lifters on all cylinders, but it may be cheaper in the long run to build up my spare block and head and start fresh. After only 250,000 miles and 25 years! Is that gratitude? (LOL)

how much for those headers?? any pics? what make are they and will they clear the column shift linkages?
