Apache Worth?
I saw a Apache pickup for sale along the road and was wondering what it would be worth. I Looks to be about a '58 or so and long bed chrome front end Glass looks good. Paint oxidized and some rust along the bottom. I did not get close to it but the more I look at it when I drive by the more I like it. I think it says running condition which could mean down hill for all I know. What should I look for in rust areas or frame that would be a walk away sign.

Re: Apache Worth?
Worth is all relative. What is the owner asking?
As for common rusty areas on these things, a few areas i know about are: -lower rear cab corners -lower rear front fenders behind the front tires -rust inside at the toeboards -Up top in the center above the windshield Was this a fleetside or step side model? Good luck on the find! |

Re: Apache Worth?
I stopped and took a look at it. It is a stepside with cab corners gone Doors rusted out with quick patch on it. 1 rust spot on the passenger fender topside buy the hood. It has a 32 Apache chrome emblems. The owner said it has a 350 in it and he was thinking of putting the 283 back in it when the 350 died. Looked to have a fairly new drive shaft in the rear. He was asking $2500 with the patch panels to fix it. I took some picture with a phone so I will try and get them posted.

Re: Apache Worth?
I think that seems reasonable, Maybe a bit on the high side. Depends on supply and demand ya know.
If it runs and drives it may be worth the while. Finding good doors can be a challenge. Make a list of what it needs and price the parts to see if it is worth it to you. |

Re: Apache Worth?
Repop doors are now available but pricey. Check out some of the vendors. If you plan on doing anything other than driving the truck if you buy it expect to spend, spend, spend. Trying to sell my 59 short step (see the board) and no way I'd even break even. If you want a nice restored original or street rod consider saving yourself a bunch of money and frustration and look for a completed turnkey. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Apache Worth?
$2500 doesn't sound way out of line. I don't think I'd pay more than that though. Could always offer $1500 or $2000 if more comfortable with that and see what happens. Helps that he has the patch panels with it already too.

Re: Apache Worth?
Yep, $2500 was a little out of my piggy bank I had been looking for a 68-72 subs . Saw an add for a 68 sub for $400 but lost the paper and can't find it. But like I said I drive past it once or twice a week and it started to look pretty good.

Re: Apache Worth?
take it a 2500. I paid 1800 6 years ago and it was not as good a shape. You should try to talk him down I'd start at 1900 and see if he bites.

Re: Apache Worth?
Looks pretty decent, offer something you're comfortable with. If he doesn't bite then it wasn't meant to be.
By the way, I'm pretty sure that is a '59 not a '58. The Hood emblem & fender trim pieces are those of a 59 anyway. Still not a bad looking machine though. |
