Finish work help needed
I'm so close.
Okay - So nobody likes trim. I do, and it's going on. Installed the new cab and tranny bushings. Put the rubber inserts in on the bed mounts. The trim doesn't line up between the bed and the cab.. What to do? Put more washers in on the cab mounts? Jack up the rear of the bed? Wife doesn't care about all the work that came before. She just wants those side trim pieces to line up. Thanks |

What do your body lines look like from the cab to the bed? If they are where they are supposed to be, you will have to adjust the mouldings on the side of the truck. I have never played with the mouldings on these trucks, but I think there are holes in the panels. You may have to oblong the holes. The retainers aren't upside down?? or something simple like that?

I take it that the bed chrome is higer than the cab chrome?
Hopefully not by much. If you used metal clips to hold the bed chrome on, than adjusting the chrome is a major job. I would shim the cab up. It should not be too hard. Changing the door and cab chrome will not give you much adjustment because the cab chrome will hit the lock cylinder if it is moved downward. I am also assuming that you have tried adjusting the small cab chrome piece downward, but you can't move that too much or it will misalign with the door chrome. Good luck! Jim |

If you'll go to an auto body supply place and get the professional 3M double sided tape they use for mounting emblems and moldings. Use that instead of the metal clips. You can run a straight line with masking tape for a guide, then line everything up perfectly. None of the new vehicles that I know of use metal clips anymore to mount trim pieces.

how far does it come from lining up?....most likely it's the rubber pads you installed under the box that is throwing it off, since they didn't have them from the factory, you will prolly wind up shimming the cab up to get it to match.

Tightened the snot out of the bed mounts.
Installed 3 big washers on top of the rear cab mounts and now it's arrow straight. Now I have to raise the door on the passenger side - somehow. Man, I just got the striker plate to line up right. Arghh. I will be done. Thanks for your help. |
