I am in the process of importing a Jimmy I got from Canada, US customs needs paperwork stating that it meets DOT approval for that year (1972) any idea where I could get this?

Re: dot approved
I heard this was easier if you could prove that the blazer was made in the US. I've been doing a little research myself but I am still unclear about all the necessary paper work. Good luck. Let us know what you find.

Re: dot approved
DOT approval on the whole thing?????
I know things like tale light lenses, window glass etc has the DOT marking on them. Man, good luck. Hey, maybe just have the guy you bought it from bring it over the border, say like on a vacation, and he just happens to leave it at your place.

Re: dot approved
That`s nuts on a vehicle with obsolete standards.Since,if it`s registered as historic it doesn`t need to meet any standards.

Re: dot approved
That is crazy. You should just have to pay for the "State Inspection" and be done with it. The VIN should say where it was built. That might help.
Be prepared to pay sales tax up the #$%*! When I bought my '72 I brought it in from Oregon. Sales tax on an out of state vehicle was 9.1%. Then they tacked on a 3% monorail tax (even though I don't live in Seattle) which brought the total tax to over 11%!

Here sales tax is 9.75%, but on a classic you can just enter anything
from $100 to $1000, if they don't verify it your in the clear, which on older vehicles they usually don't, good luck on your quest, it sounds
