1972 Trim Levels - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm starting to work out the scheme for my 1972 Custom/10 and I'm wondering what trim options were available. I don't want to make a fake Cheyenne - I don't really like the emblem or the woodgrain trim. I'd really like to have two tone (blue with white stripe) and the black upper/lower trim.

- Was this setup an available option?
- Was there a black (vs. woodgrain) insert for the tailgate?
- Is there a spec for the stripe in the assembly manual?
- Is there a spec for emblem placement in the assembly manual?

Also interested in the difference between a Custom/10 and a Custom/10 Deluxe.

I am not a huge fan of the woodgrain either. I had a 72 white top/blue/white middle/blue bottom C10 "Custom Deluxe" parts truck years ago, and it had black upper and lower trim, stainless window trim, and a chrome front bumper. Looked really good until it was rolled. Rear tailgate band is supposed to be on a Cheyenne only I think, but I have seen them painted black and they look good IMO. Hope this helps some.

In`72,the Custom was the base model:no bright work around windows/wind vents,white bumpers and hubcaps,and no mouldings.
The CustomDeluxe had the brightwork around windows and black accented beltline mouldings.On the tailend they had the brightwork bezels w/top and bottom trim across the tailgate.
The CustomDeluxe was available with a special package called the Highlander.It included woodgrain beltline moulding,upper side moulding,chrome bumpers and hubcaps.The only thing different on a Cheyenne is it has the tailgate band and no lower tailgate trim.
These are just the exterior descriptions.

Guys, this is all GREAT information! I've been trying to decide what I want to do and this was a great help!

I know I don't want brightwork around the windows. I for sure want the lower beltline, black. I'm pretty sure I want a white two-tone with the upper beltline, black. I'd like to have the Cheyenne-style tailgate cover with black, and I'm pretty sure I want white painted bumpers. Sounds like this wouldn't have been a factory option, but I think that's the way I'm heading.

Just recently a black accented tailgate band has become available for the first time,ever.Before,you would have to remove the letters and strip the woodgrain,paint,then reinstall the letters.I like that look,too.
