pro street build
hi all, i am going to build this truck of mine into a drag(some street) truck and want to build to take me into the 10s safely.
anything right now is an option on how to build it but to start i have a 81 camaro front clip and want to use it as the base of my project. of course money is limited but i do have very good welding skills and wish to complete most if not all of it myself what i am asking for from anyone out there is help with the build eg. pics, ideas, tips, and sizes of tubing pipe or rectangular. but most of all , how to lose as much weight as i can but still pass a road check if you know what i mean so come on guys, is there people that can get me started? thanks

go with the most cubic inches that you can afford!!!
as for weight, fiberglass. you can buy a whole fiberglass bed from US body source (i think) four link in the rear, they have bolt in mustang II style crossmembers for our trucks now.

Johngear67, my advice is to build it right the first time, therefore you will save time, money, and most importantly Frustration. Go big or go home. Also, good luck.
BTW Nate68, could you give a link or an address or something of who has that mustang II crossmember? Pleeze !?!?! Brandon. |

i cant remember the name of the place off the top of my head but there are ads in Custom Classic Trucks magazine (i think in the back where all the ads are) they even make them for 73-up. of course if they fit our trucks then they'll fit 73-up 'cause the bolts lineup (except for one on each side) anyone who has done a 5 lug conversion this way knows.
anyway, i'll look up the name of the company later tonight and post their url and phone # etc.

Nate68, thanks for the help. I've been wondering if there was a kit for it, never found one. I don't ever get Custom Classic Trucks, I only get Truckin' and whatever else I see that has some of our era trucks in it. Thanks though.

Fatman Fabrications http://www.hotrodssuperstore.com/sup...re/fatman.html They can make a mustang II "style" (Beefier than stock) crossmember for about $300-$450 I think. Just checked their website, you may have to call them, our trucks aren't listed anymore.

not nessicerily HUDGE, we (family) run a 72 Nova doorslammer that was back halfed(tubbed) 4 link, 9"m power glide, glass front pieces only, (steel doors, and all...)and a 427 SMALL BLOCK CHEVY :-) the car weighs in at about 2900# wiht no driver, runs 6.16 1/8th and its almost topped in the 1/4 but runs 9.78 @ 134
427 is a big small block, but its no 600 CI big block... but look what it'll do!! also, thats with ONE carb and it is Naturally asperated!(no blower, no turbo, no nitrous!) Bryce
