WYGDTW - just so I can vent!
18 HOURS so far and this is what I have to show for my frame! MAN the guys that do one in a weekend get a nod from me! I am probably going the labor intensive way but it is a HOBBY! HA! Between the wire wheel, wire brush and sandpaper for the seams, I'm BEAT! I worked in the shop all weekend but the wife and I are exhausted from anticipation - the little one is now 5 days overdue....zzzzzz Also fixed my cell phone carrying case so now if it breaks, it'll be after it tears my pants off! Not much of a vent but I feel better!

Try an electric toothbrush next time. Might have speeded up the work!
Seriously, it looks great. Good luck with the other issue!

looks good. I know when I did my 70's frame it seemed like forever before I got it clean. Who would have though 30 years would be such a mess Keep on going, I did my the hobby (hard) way also. Yours is coming out great. Good luck with the yungun!

Re: WYGDTW - just so I can vent!
Holy crap dude, I can't imagine how long that would take with a wire wheel and sandpaper. It took me like 2 days to do my chevelle frame with a pressurized sandblaster in my driveway and I was whining the whole time. But keep it up, it's looking great. I'm kind of strange in that I love to see a really nicely detailed rolling chassis. It's like functional art.

those are good results for your delicate methods. i knocked down the dirt or grinded off rust, and put it in ready brown primer quick, and then gloss black. my frame was never black before painting it like yours.

Thanks - it might go quicker if I turn off the TV, the heat and move farther away from the fridge with the cold ones in it - it just seems like I'm going nowhere and then at the end of the day, I think.... well, 3/4 more to go!

Re: WYGDTW - just so I can vent!
Its good to read that it takes everybody else time to do this.I've had my truck a year now and it is still just a cab on a frame.I have changed the crossmember and rearend for the five lugs and disk brakes.

Looks good. You'll be glad you worked hard it will feel better when you are done.
Were you using a regular wire wheel, or a twisted wire wheel? Twisted wire works a lot faster, and doesn't wear out so fast. my .02

It's A Tough, Time Consuming, Dirty Job. The Only Saving Grace Is That When Someone Gets On Thier Knees & Looks Under Your Truck, You Can Say That You Did All The Work On Your Frame Yourself. John
I'VE DONE THAT MYSELF & THE TWISTED OR KNOTTED CUP WIRE WHEELS THAT THREAD RIGHT ON YOU 4" ANGLE GRINDER. DO LAST ALOT LONGER & THE WIRE STRANDS DON'T COME FLYING OUT TO IMPAIL YOU. JOHN
