5on5 axles from 76 into 67

I have a friend that will give me the 5-lug axles out of his 76 (he has already given me the front suspension...complete control arm to control arm) Will these axles slide right into my 67 12-bolt rear-end? I've seen "conversion axles" like those offered from ECE, so I'm assuming it won't be this easy, but I was hoping maybe they could be shortened or something cheaper than conversion axles.

They are too wide.
Some ppl will make spacers to place between the backing plate and the housing, however, that is a bad idea. The section of the shaft that rides on the bearings is hardened more than the rest of the axle. By installing a long shaft in there, you will not be rolling on the hadened surface.
While many have done this in the past, it is a prime recipie for a wheel to fall odd (with hub intact) and leave you skidding in circles in the middle of the freeway doing 70 MPH... on your 1/4 panel.

Doesn't ECE have a kit to change over 73-87 axles to to spring mount and the pan bar? That might be an easier route.
