Any '68 Long WB Stepsides?
Anyone have a '68 Long Wheel Base stepside? Are these not popular enough or are they rare? I've been searching for pictures of them all over the internet and can't find any. I noticed how short wheel based trucks (stepsides and fleetsides) are the most popular.
My dad owns a C/20 that I'd like to restore. It was my grandpa's since the early/mid-70's and now is stored in the barn at our farm. I posted a fairly long message in the Welcome forum on Friday about it. I'd love to see some pictures of other LWB stepsides so I can get ideas on colors, tires, etc. I'll take some of my dad's when I get out to the farm again and post them...as soon as it warms up a bit. Thanks! |

Re: Any '68 Long WB Stepsides?
welcome to the board!
What part of Ohio you in? Got any pics of the long step? As you noticed, they are not very popular, but they do have a small following. Wait till you see a 9 foot stepside...only in one ton trucks, it looks REALLY funny. |

Re: Any '68 Long WB Stepsides?
Thanks for the pics and the welcome!
Looking at TruckinDaddy's avatar and moneyguru's picture after all of the SWB stepsides, the LWB's do look kinda funny. I guess I never thought my dad's was that "unique" looking compared to other stepsides for the 30 or so years it's been in the family. But I'm really looking forward to restoring it. moneyguru, what color red is your truck? My oldest brother thinks candy apple red would look great. I'm leaning more towards a darker color. Currently, it's white on the exterior and white interior w/blue steering wheel, seat, door panels, sun visors & dash pad Longhorn Man, I'm in Cincinnati...west side...transplanted after I married a west-sider. I don't have any pictures of the truck yet...plan to take a bunch when I get to out our farm again. Probably will wait till the weather warms up a bit although I'm getting pretty anxious to get this project underway |

Re: Any '68 Long WB Stepsides?
My truck was my grandfather's farm truck. It was just parked in a field when he died 13 years ago. This is a good side shot from before I brought it home.
And this is one from the first time I got to drive it. I've been working on it about a year now. BTW, I love the look of the short steps. My dream truck is a 67 small window short step. But I like my long step because they are a lot less common around here. Last edited by TruckinDaddy; 02-20-2006 at 10:38 PM. |

Re: Any '68 Long WB Stepsides?
My old truck was a 68 long step. I had it painted a dark metallic red, like some of the new Tahoes. It's a good color on these trucks. The extra bed length came in handy. I totaled it a few years ago. I need to scan some pix and post 'em.

Re: Any '68 Long WB Stepsides?
I actually have two LWB Steps. One is a '71 Chevy K20, which I'm currently working on and the other is a '72 GMC K2500 that is currently in the paint shop.

Re: Any '68 Long WB Stepsides?
Thanks for the pictures! The fact that my dad's truck is fairly rare/unique adds ro the excitement of restoring it. Really want to get to out to the farm and get some pictures of it now! Unfortunately, my wife works Saturday so I have kid-duty and we're having a 65th b-day party for my dad on Sunday so this weekend is shot.
big blue 72, I live in Cheviot but work in West Chester (not too far from you). Maybe we should get together for a cold one after work. |

my truck is a Chevy red,for some reason Chevy Tornado red comes to mind but I will have to re-check that and get back to you. I too like having a truck that is perceived as "unique" by others, I've actually had people walking around it trying to figure where I spliced together the bed! They "knew" that the stepside was only available as a short-bed so that meant I had taken a LWB truck and used two stepside beds to build my truck. I couldn't convince him otherwise!
