I have a 71 with a locker in it. C20

I am sure you will not find one in a 73 from the factory.

Re: eaton years?

I think it was 47-72. I'm not sure about the 47, but 72 was the last year.

Re: eaton years?

47 sounds about right, 72 was the last year. 20 series and 30 series, in c and k trucks.

Re: eaton years?

Are these worth anything? I have one in a 68 3/4 ton that i figured was not worth anything. It is a complete rust free truck, just no motor trans. I actually thought I'd cut it up into a trailer?! If the rear is useful I'll pull it and sell?! Just curious, not trying to steal thread or sell here!

There ar eplenty of people interested in the center section if it is a 4.10, but no one wants to pay to ship 150 pounds.

I have a 60-66 fleetside trailer with an eaton under it. I'm told that some are worth $500 with the right hardware.

highly doubtfull in all reality.
If you offered me 500 bucks for the eaton in my truck, I'd break out the jack stands and rip it out for you.

Re: eaton years?

I figured, anything is worth what someone will pay! I have no idea on the ratio. I was shocked when I saw it because it reminded me of a 9" or something with that smooth rear on it. I'll have to study up on it for a ratio and I am not sure if it is a posi?

Re: eaton years?

They only seem to be worth anything if they have the locker installed in them....not sure what years the locker started being an option.

Re: eaton years?

They ran from 47'-72'. The H072 has a Load Bolt and larger brakes. The H052 is just the standard rear end. The No-Spin appears to have became avaliable in the 60's but I have no proof, yet.I'm always finding out new info about them.

Re: eaton years?

just a couple of things to add, the ratios that i've found in research 4:10, 4:56, 5:13 the no-spin is REALLY hard to run across if your looking, and the shafts + spider/side gears can be swapped out for a 14-bolt detroit + shafts if your looking to add a locker. also, if you want to add disc brakes, there are a few companies selling kits specific to the eaton, but 14-bolt kits can be modified to work (the spacers will need to be shortened) i used one from BTF(www.bluetorchfab.com)

hope this helps out

That deflection or load bolt was not only on the 72's... I have one out of a 72 HO52 with said bolt.

Hmm I cut up a 67 3/4 frame and made a truck be trailer too. I doubt they're worth much.

Re: eaton years?

It's always worth a check to see if they have a No-Spin or not. I got my H052 from a '65 C20 with coil springs and trailing arms, and it had 4.57 gears and the No-Spin from the factory.

Re: eaton years?

There talking the gm axle known as an eaton in the service and parts manuals.

These trucks typical (3/4 and 1 ton) used a dana 60 or an Eaton axle for rear diffs.

Are you sure it's a 52? In my research I came to the conclusion that and the bigger brakes are what make a 72. Just what I gathered.

Re: eaton years?

Interested in this load bolt. Does anyone have a pic of it and where it is on the rear end. I believe I have the larger brakes because I have the bigger of the 2 brake drums. Is there a stamp or number to identify the rear ends.

Re: eaton years?

I added 2 pictures here.
First one has the load bolt circled. Calling it a load bolt is a bit misleading, as it is more of an adjustable clearance bolt. I dont have a service manual with me, but basically you loosen the locking nut, adjust to zero clearance, back off a certain amount, then torque the locking nut. It sets a fractional clearance to the ring gear and stops it from deflecting under heavy load.

Second picture has what is visible of a factory No-Spin, or detroit locker. If you look in this window and see gears, its not a locker.
