In Cab Fuel Tank Question?

Whats the difference in a EEC tank and a NON-EEC tank? And do all 71-72's have an EEC tank?
I have a local person needing a in-cab tank, I have several 67-68 tanks, but no 71-72's. I know there are the same size and mount the same, but don't know the EEC difference. I told him he might need to change the sender/outlet piece back to his orig. (his tank leaks) But are there other differences?
Thanks for any input...

Re: In Cab Fuel Tank Question?

The EEC stands for Evaporative Emission Control (I think) and the main differences are the EEC tank has an extra line that allows the fumes in the tank to be "vented" to a charcoal canister just under the battery in the 71/72 models. Not 100% sure, but I would think you could use the EEC tank in place of the NON-EEC by just capping those lines. There is a vent loop in the passenger side B-Pillar for the EEC tank that prevents the fuel from being siphoned out of the tank. If those lines are capped, you would definately want to use a vented gas cap.

Re: In Cab Fuel Tank Question?

So, If his truck has the EEC tank, Can he use a 67-68 non-EEC tank if he replaces the sender/pick-up tube assy? Can a 67-68 non-EEC tank replace a 71-72 EEC tank?

Re: In Cab Fuel Tank Question?

I am rather sure it can be...does your state require any kind of "state inspections" Aside from that, you could effectively cap off the charcoal canister at that point as well. Shouldn't be an issue what so ever as far as the truck is concerned.

Re: In Cab Fuel Tank Question?

I know it is off topic from the main situation here, but I thought maybe some one might know. A question for who ever can help me out. My gas guage needle goes all the way to the left and just stays there. No idea why.
