I looked about a year ago for a patch panel for the inside of a stepside fender but no luck. I need the angeled piece that mounts to the bed sides. Mine is rusted of right at the bend. I guess I may have to just find someone with a break to make me an angled pice.

Has anyone seen such a patch panel?
Is there a source for sheet metal already bent in angles?

I threw a set of fenders away just because there was no real good way to fix them, when they are rusted in that angle. Yes you may find someone who can "fix" them but how long is it gonna last?

Not sure if I can afford the fiberglass ones. That would be nice.

I would guess they would last as long as any other patch panel you put on? The metal is good about 1/2" back. I have seen others patch this with even heavier metal than original. Mine is not gone just missing in spots.

prices to see how much it would cost to bend the steel and fix the fenders vs the costs of fiberglass fenders.

Since I will be welding the pieces in myself, and grinding and painting, I hope 2 pieces of angled steel wont cost me 500+

I have no desire to highjack this thread, but, speaking of stepside fender patches, does anyone know of a spare-tire cut-out that can be welded in?

My fenders were the same way. (aren't they all?) I made up the new pieces from an old hood and welded them in. I did mine in sections so I was able to bend the metal in a large vise. When you come up to the curved parts of the fender, you can't make them so I did mine in 2 parts. Weld in the top part (part you would see) and then fab the back part and weld it in where they meet at the 90 degrees. (part with the bolt holes) I hope this makes sense.

Trust me, they aren't going anywhere! If you do good welds, and undercoat the fender, it should last for a very long time.

Thanks for the replies guys. I saw a guy do a fender with L shaped sheet metal. He cut Vs out of it in the corners and welded them together. I may go with the Idea of 12" sections that I can bend myself.

I have seen a patch panel for the fender, but I dont rember where. You shoud be able to find a donor fender pretty cheap. That part of the fender lasts pretty good.
