Harmonic Balancer

Im not sure if its my harmonic balancer or my v-belt supposedly that is causing this god-awefull noise.....coming from the transmission, and by this i mean between the engine crank shaft and the manual transmission housing, while the truck is on u can see the harmonic balancer spinning, while making this horrible screeetching noise....its the same 90 percent of the time whether driving or idle....sometimes i get pissed and drown out the noise with my led foot....any help, please???
Thanx

Re: Harmonic Balancer

Mine was doing that too...Turned out I threw a bearing or whatever they call it when a crank bearing goes bad.

Re: Harmonic Balancer

Sounds like a bad throw out bearing if it's in the bellhousing. That's the bearing in the fork that engages the clutch.

Re: Harmonic Balancer

Could be the TO bearing. If the noise changes some when you depress the clutch pedal slowly, I'd say it is.

Re: Harmonic Balancer

Not the throwout bearing, i just had a new clutch kit, new syncro's and new dogs/keys installed, basically a new tranny rebuild....and the noise isnt coming from inside the housing its like between the housing and the engine....next to the flywheel...
