One piece SWB driveshaft
I have a 69 C10 SWB with a 350 / 350 combo. Engine or trans not yet installed, but no driveshaft with truck when I purchased it. I would like to install a one piece shaft and was wondering if anyone knows if there would be a problem with this. Also if not, does anyone know of a donor shaft that would work, or the length needed for the one piece.
Any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

I had the drive shaft out of a 1986 Trans Am shortened down to fit. I am using a 700R4 in a 68 SWB

A one piece should be no problem, especially in a SWB. Best thing to do is take it to a local drive shaft shop. they will tell you the exact dimensions to take, and if you find a donor they will even reduce the size for you. It is not real expensive.

My truck has a one piece. The guy I bought the truck from put it in about 20 years ago, and have had no problems since. He made it himself. He explained to how he did it and it didn't sound that hard, but I can't remember what the donor shaft came out of.

If you have a coil spring rear, and a short shaft TH350 on a swb...your shaft will need to be 4 foot, 10 inches.
That's whats in my GMC, and it looks to have been a one piece from the get go. No Carrier bearing scars. |
