cutting lower A-arms?

Hey guys,

me and my dad were talking about ways of getting my truck lower on a budget, I already have everything to bag it and 3" drop spindles, but I am still not low enough. I plan on Z'ing the frame but dont want to Z the frame so much I have to cut out half the cab floor. Any ways we were looking at the lower A-arms and realized I could get another 1-1.5inch drop if I could make more clearance now my bag in my LCA. So I am curious has anyone widend the opening in their LCA to make more clearance for your bags so you can sit lower? If not I will take pix and do a write up if anyone is intrested, but I know I cant be the first one to atempt this.

Thanks
Keith

Re: cutting lower A-arms?

it would be the same as having lowering a-arms that djm suspension sells, if done properly it should work, you can step the ball joint to give you that 1-1.5 that you need...

You can also section 1 1/4" out of the center of your crossmember. This raises all your suspention in your frame with out Z-ing. Do a search I remember people talking about it here before. I will check for it as well.

edit~ here it is. look thru it and find the post about section out of the center of the crossmember. I feel this is teh best and easiest way to go.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=60649

Re: cutting lower A-arms?

If you section you crossmember 1.5" and add lower control arms 1.5" isn't 1.5"+1.5"=3.0"
Or do i have the wrong idea

Re: cutting lower A-arms?

Thanks guys,

I am aware of the crossmember drop. I was just wondering if I could get some extra drop cutting my A-arms.

Re: cutting lower A-arms?

Cut the ball joint off and raise it 1.5 in" and cut out the middled of the lower arm out and Pipe It. Take a piece of pipe and cut it about 3 to 4 inches long and cap the bottom and weld the pipe in where the bag use to sit. So youll have 1.5in drop arms and buy moving the bag lower youll get better ride and more drop, but remember you dont need to step the arms that much, when laid out measure from the x-member to the groung and step it that much....

Re: cutting lower A-arms?

Thanks 7deuce,

I am thinking I can get away with out raising the ball joint. I am going to be Z'ing the frame. So it is not like modifying the lower A-arms is the only form of lowering I am doing.

Thanks again
