What's a Hydraulic Pwr Brake system worth?
I got this 84 burb that I'm parting out, and is has that Hydraulic Power Brake system on it. I've heard people putting this on our trucks. What the going price for one of these and is it worth fooling with? It looks complete with the power steering pump and hoses.

I was thinking on maybe doing that. I don't know if there is a FAQ on it or not. Would still like to know what a fair price would be if I decide to sell it.

It was an option on full size caprice wagons 1 year. It was a problem so they pulled it. My son had one and when it went out for the second time in a little over a year he traded the car. I have never owned one so don't have first hand knowledge of it. At the time it was $1200+ to get it fixed.

the advantage is you can run a big cam and not worry about losing vacuum for your power brakes.

Re: What's a Hydraulic Pwr Brake system worth?
The wrecking yards seem to be full of them on diesels and 1 tons. $100-200 for a real nice, clean, operating system. They work good. I have one on my 79 1ton dually/car hauler.
There is quite a bit of plumbing, but not overwhelming. Last edited by PICKMUP; 02-26-2006 at 03:24 PM. |

Re: What's a Hydraulic Pwr Brake system worth?
These give me you a lot more pressure for stopping. I am not sure of what a used one goes for but when I checked on some new setups before I went with a different option they started at $650 and went up to $875 for a chrome unit.

Re: What's a Hydraulic Pwr Brake system worth?
they work a lot better. running out of vaccum is not an issue and the pressure needs fades off. my 77 1 ton wrecker has hydroboost and it works a lot better than most vac booster systems i have driven

Re: What's a Hydraulic Pwr Brake system worth?
Are they a direct bolt on to our trucks or are mods needed?

i would imagine you would have to drill new holes in the firewall as well as adjust the brake pedal rod.it should be too terribly difficult to do the swap

One of my local customers put the system in his 502 powered, 4X4, SWB to stop those BIG wheels & tires. Very cool.

Re: What's a Hydraulic Pwr Brake system worth?
Here is a couple of pics of mine. I just installed it, havent had a chance to try it out yet. It was bought from hydratech braking (hydroboost.com) and they have outstanding service. It came with a machined adapter plate that made the swap a bolt on project. As far is what yours is worth??....I don't have a clue

Re: What's a Hydraulic Pwr Brake system worth?
I am using a system I removed from a 1989 1 ton Chevy truck. It works very well! Here is a link to info on my swap.
