Price range for a 65 burb? And rust areas! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am in the market for a 65 burb for an up comming project that is scheduled but I have never looked around for this year vintage before. What should I expect to pay for a driver in need of typical repair? Also were is the typical rust prone areas on these. I have done alot of wook on the 67-72 but this is the first outting on a 60-66 area. Any info would be great!

Kevin, rust areas are along the cab, the lip above the window and around the edge of the roof. Poor drainage, condensation builds. Frustrating, because they are cool looking trucks.

Wes (just sold 67 stepside, still have 65 Chevy I've owned since 72, and working on a 66 Suburban)

Rust areas are anywhere within 10 feet of the truck!

One Million Dollars! I paid $1000.00 for mine. This is plenty surface rust all over. The only major rust was on the floor board and the underside of the rockers. Previous owner repaired the floor boards (ugly but effective) and rockers have yet to be done.

I would only really worry about the Suburban specific body parts (within reason). Otherwise they rust the same as the trucks (similar to 67-72) Watch out for rear lift/tail gate or barn door damage. They are getting very expensive to replace. I think you should be able to get a really solid project vehicle for 2-4k. But be prepared to look for a while.

Again, with your skills and the fact that you're going to cut it up anyway, you might be better off starting with a paneltruck and fabbing the quarter window lips (maybe graft from a donor). Equivalent panels are cheaper.

Thanks for the info! I am not in a big hurry to find a burb so I will start putting out my feelers and see what comes up. I know I want a 64-66 chevy (coils front and rear). I would prefer a burb over a panel but I will check out conditions on all I come across.
