Shortening a steering column
Has anyone shortened a steering column? Are the tilt columns shorter then a non-tilt column? What are my options if I want a shorter steering column? Thanks

I've never seen a shorter steering column for our trucks. If anything you're going to have to get an aftermarket one.

I don't know how hard it would be to lower the position of the column in regard to the dash (I don't know how it mounts), but you could partially collapse the intermediate shaft to give yourself more room.

I had to shorten one for a Chevelle project I had a few years ago. I don't remember much about it, but it was a tilt 4spd column from a 77 Blazer...

When my steering column broke down a few years ago, the only column I could find at that time was a 86 Caprice column. And I like it a lot. It's about 4 inches shorter. No more steering wheel in the belly and much easier to get behind the wheel. (And I'm really not that fat
)

Well, you have to modify the column to dash bracket a bit. Nothing fancy. You can only use 2 of the 4 bolts there if you want to keep it simple. For the rest it's all identical.
