Sold the 82

Well, I still have mixed feelings about this, but my 82 has been sold. And for WAY less then what I have invested in it. The truck started its life as a 6.2 1/2 ton diesel. The guy I bought it from had put a gas 350 in it. I put a 350 bored 60 over and rebuilt the 700R4 transmission about 20,000 miles ago. Engine has Edelbrock intake, comp cam extreme 4 X 4, Mallory billet distributer, headers, new 2.5" true duals from the headers to back behind the rear tires, 3/4 ton axles with 3.73 gears, rebuilt calipers, new rotors, new drums, new shoes, new 3/4 ton springs, new sensatrack shocks in the rear, new KYB shocks up front, added a leaf up front, new American Racing wheels and new Hancook tires.

I stuck a lot of money into it. But I bought my 93 Dually and I can not afford to have 4 vehicles sitting around. I am doing a lien agreement with a friend of mine. And you all will probably shoot me for what I sold it for. $2500. The engine I have about 1200 in, the transmission was about the same, 250 in exhaust, well over a grand in the axles and such (new seals, a few bearings, etc) I was hoping to ask for 4000 and then take offers. But, I have known this guy for about 10 years now. He has a late 80's S-10 that has 207,000 miles on it. And he has towed everything with that truck including a huge cadillac with a big block in it. (That 2.8L V6 is amazing!)

He knew I was selling my truck, he was very interested in it since he tows a lot, I figured I would cut him a deal, and I guess it is sold. Still not sure how to feel. I haven't cleaned it out at all yet. Such good memories that I will never have with this dually.

The night that my brother-in-law and friend of ours and I decided that after a few drinks we needed to have some fun. Tied my tow strap to an old tire, locked in the 4 wheel drive, and towed each other around the farm through the snow for hours! Then forgetting that I had the tire back behind me and driving home (35 miles) with it down the interstate.

Getting stuck New Years Eve night because my future brother-in-law and I thought it would be fun to go 4 wheeling through the snow. He buried his truck, I went in to get him and ended up finding a ditch with snow that was up to the hood.

I'll never see days like that with my dually. I need to find a small 4 wheel drive to have fun with.

Re: Sold the 82

Sometimes you have to let em go. Can't keep them all. You may of sold it for less than you wanted to but it will still be in your sight. Times change and maybe someday you could get the option to buy it back. I have let a few go and never see em again and wish I could find em but there is always another truck that can replace em. Remember the memories dont go with the truck. Keep pics of it and tell people the stories.

Re: Sold the 82

That you sold the truck or what you got out of the truck is your choice. From the sounds of it you saw a need someone had and you filled it. You needed to unload some of your load and you did. Since you've known this guy for 10 years you must know about him and the fact that you will cross paths with your old truck makes it a good thing. If you are having second thoughts and no money has changed hands it's still your truck and you can change your mind, but it is not a good way to keep 10 year friendships going. You and only you can make you happy. Just my .02

Re: Sold the 82

It's just hard to let em go. I have owned 6 vehicles and have had to get rid of 3. My 81 Chevy Citation made it to the salvage yard. That was the hardest one. My 82 Honda Accord I sold to my brother-in-law for 200 bucks. It's nice to see that car still moving. Good little car. My 82 is now sold as well.

I'm going to miss the truck, but I am A LOT happier with this dually I have. Man can that thing pull! Just pulled around 18,000 (including trailer) and it towed VERY well.

I can't back down on my decision with this friend. I know that if I have some withdrawls, he'll let me come over and drink some beer and work on her again! He needs it more then I do.

Thanks for the support. It's almost like watching your kid go off to college. It's tough to have em gone, but you know that you will see them again!

So is it okay for me to hang around the board even though I no longer own a 73 - 87?

Absolutely.. Your blood kin. We always stick together. Besides we like the trucks whether we have one or not and that is what counts.
