Bought a 1962 car hauler project.....

Just picked this thing up on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT

Should be here at my shop by the end of the week. Not sure what to make of it yet. Last thing I really needed was a project of this magnitude interfering with my already too many projects. Im gonna just write this one off as one of those "it seemed like a good idea at the time of bidding" deals. LOL. Too cool to pass up, and has a 14,000 lb winch to boot. Ive already got a 1982 crewcab dually donor vehicle 454/th400 one ton 2wd front suspension, wiring, etc. that I'll rob to build this one. Im still undecided on what cab to put back on it I have a complete 64 shortbed pickup, but im thinking a 57 might be cooler?? Anyways, thought I'd share I'll update as things progress. Any one with cool hauler pics would be appreciated? Thanks Guys!

That's really cool !!
55-57 sounds like a great plan
it's gotta be a snub-nose/cab-over though
might even have room for a sleeper behind it
Heck, get really crazy and stretch the c/o to fit the space
Ooh the possibilities

Re: Bought a 1962 car hauler project.....

update on the project: i dont know if this should be in 60-66 or 55-59 but anyways it started off as what I believe to be a 63 and not a 62 as posted by the seller. But any how, Im putting a 57 cab and front end on it so heres a few progress pics. if anyone has questions or would like to see pics of body mounts and what is needed for a frame swap i will be happy to post whatever info I find out.

Started with this:

And this:

And then there was this:

And then she found a new home, weeeeee!:

Re: Bought a 1962 car hauler project.....

Future plans are to swap out 454/t400 from a 1974 crew cab c-30 single wheel one ton 2wd truck. Anyone know if the c-30 single wheel and dually use the same spindle and caliper? i need dually axles for this hauler, is it just a matter of swapping out the rotors or am I gonna need to find a dually donor at that bone yard witht he spindles caliprs etc? thanks, john

Re: Bought a 1962 car hauler project.....

update: does anyone know offhand if 2 ton motorhome chassis stuff will bolt up under these frames the same way a 1 ton dually front crossmember would? i found a guy aprting some motor homes and he'd sell me the complete front frame section and rear diff for 400 bucks, just wondering cuz the control arms and what not all look similar, not sure if I could get those 19" budd wheels to work those tires are migthy tall.
