18 Circuit Painless Wiring Question

Does Anyone Know If The 18 Circuit Painless Wiring Harness That Costs 309.00 Comes With The Plug That Plugs Into The Ignition Switch. The Picture On The Website Only Shows A Generic Photo Of A Harness. The Plastic Behind My Ignition Switch Id Melted So I Need Another One. Someone Told Me That This Harness Might Be A Wire In. But I Hope Someone Has One And Can Tell Me Does It Just Plug Into The Ignition Switch Or What.

probably not, a new plug is less than 20 bucks, switch is about 20, and the rest is cheap, but if you buy all the necessary parts, expect to spend over 50 bucks. more like 75 if you're not getting the good deals.

yes it comes with one, got mine from Summit, 18 circuit for our trucks

Has all connectors, IIRC the only ones you have to attach are the headlight ones. Has provisions for 2 or 4 headlight setups

Got mine from summit. Painless Part # 10206 Summit # PRF10206

Mine came with both connectors for the steering column. The NON-halfmoon was installed on the wires, so follow the directions carefully to remove it and install the halfmoon one. Not hard, but can screw up the wire ends if your not careful.

And keep track of which wire goes where. Their directions are very complete. Just take your time and lay everything out and plan it well. once everythings mocked in, start tie wrapping, wire looming whatever yyou preffer. Keep yourself to a 3 beer minimun as well!

Those of you that have it and istalled it can you show pics of it on the firewall? What type of hole did you make for the wires to go through to the engine bay?

Comes with a template to enlarge the Stock hole in the firewall. Engine bay section fits in the hole and connection is made there with a bolt to the fuse panel. Hardest part is getting a tool in there to make the hole bigger. I'll try to get some pics later today... Gotta go down and try on my new wheels and check for backspacing! Woohoo... damn only have 1 beer...and its not cold.. DOH

Thanks, pics would be great. As for the beer, well with the weather we have been having, in the bay area lately, leave it outside for 5 minute and it will probably be frozen.....

So the painless kit comes with all the plugs you need to install it? I didn't know that. I've been trying to decide what harness to buy (my original is toast), and this sounds like a good idea. The only problem is I'm not running the stock gauges, radio, HEI, electric choke, washer pump, van tilt, etc. Would a guy like me be better off with a generic hotrod harness or the painless unit? (Sorry for the thread hijack).

Mudd... I wasnt running ANY gauges when I started. This Kit has provisions for electric gauges and idiot lights too. Now I have all autometer gauges, msd ignition. Only thing I had to add was the Big power wire to the MSD box, everythign else is there. I think half the stuff with the kit, i didnt use...elec fans, power windows, EXTRA long fuel level sender wire (for under bed tanks), Heater or AC stuff, and who knows what else. You can go for the smaller setup, non 18 circuit one if you dont need all the bells and whistles. I just went for it because I know I'll need/want it in the future. Just insualted them and tied them up for later use.
I think its a good buy and good product... saved alot of headaches when mine melted down under the dash. Like I said before, just take your time, and double check everything.

How many of the original wire hole on the fire wall did you end up using? I an going to have my fire wall smooth and close up the used holes.

IIRC Im using the "oil pressure hole" above for my vaccum line and something else for the wiring. In my picture you can see Im using the speedo hole as well, but thats add on stuff, not from the painless kit, so could be routed a better way(got lazy on that one). I would keep the "oil pressure hole" and the "wiring hole" above it. Or one of them atleast. Would suck to smooth it all out, then find out you need a hole for something! Find some plugs for future use. IMHO

It's more than twice the price, but it looks like it comes with all the connectors I'd need, plus its specifically designed for the job, and not just some generic streetrod harness like the "It's a Snap" one.

its a snap is harder to troubleshoot then painless...... painless is a bulkhead type connection going into the firewall and IAS is a bundle of wires going through a grommet..... one would have to remove every wire under the hood to pull cab off..... or couldnt isolate the problem to under the hood wireing or inside cab wiring.....or?????????
thats why ill probley go with painless.
