Re: Firewall Insulation...?

i'm thinking of trying somthing different, don't know how it will work. i 'm going to try ice and water shield used for roofing on my floors under carpet for a sound deadener in addition to the carpet pad i think i'll use it in my doors a back of cab and on firewall in addition to factory stuff or a cheaper version of somthing like dynamatt it has an adheive back and with a heat gun will conform to conturs very well. anyone else tried this?

Re: Firewall Insulation...?

That sounds pretty close to what was original in some of the late model gm's It's like tar/rubber that is molded and adrears to the floor, Sounds like a good idea using the roofing stuff

Re: Firewall Insulation...?

I have purchased the oem version from two different vendors...
and I think KennysTrucks sells the best available for the firewall.
Chevyduty sells rubber retainer plugs that are identical to the original.
As for sound deadening, dynamat, or a similair product is going to be way more effective than tar/roofing paper, because it adheres to the surface, it will remove the vibration/resonance, along with heat that would normally transmit thru sheet metal. But anything is better than nothing.

Re: Firewall Insulation...?

Wibilly,
Think you may be on to something. Might try it on my '67. Think I'll paint the floor first with Eastwood's rust inhibitor, then Ice Shield, jute and carpet.

I just sent off for their info as a few customers have asked for this as well. For my own vehical I will probaly go with this on the under side of my cab and then on the floor and inside firewall.

I think the ice shield should work fine for your application. The only thing I would be concerned about would be smell when it gets hot. It would really suck to find this out after the truck is back together.

Re: Firewall Insulation...?

I've heard that the roofing product, as well as brown bread, and some other vibration reduction products have a "tar" smell for the first couple of summers. I've considered this for my truck when I get the rust taken care of. It won't matter that much since it is a work truck. It is not something I would want in a show vehicle.
