one more time, adjusting valves
at least she run , but she runs like crap, ok, can some one give me the best way to do this, i dont care if i have to rip the block apart. i want this done right, thanks

ok thhis is the way I do it on a 350. get the valve covers off and start it up. loosen each rocker slowly until it starts to "tick" and then tighten just enough to take the tick out. go through all rockers this way. Then go back to each rocker and loosen them again as above to ensure they were not way to tight and are fully "pumped up". After all are adjusted to where the tick has just been removed. shut it off and go through and tighten each rocker a half turn (180 degrees). put her back together and try her out. I have done this to many motors and haven't had any problems, hope it helps.

I do mine the same way Oldyeller has described,with 1/2 turn preload. Another thought, is that if the engine ran loose for some time,the plungers may be a little sticky when set at the depth that they should be. In that case, I would set the preload @1/8 to 1/4 turn,& see if that helps. I have run them as loose as 1/8 turn(to gain a few revs), but they will need adjusted more often. good luck......69 longhorn.
