is it possible to put a crewcab onto a regular cab lwb frame and then slap on a shortbed on it ? or do i just need to use the crewcab frame and shorten the rear of it to accomodate a shortbed? i have access to both (crewcab lwb and single cab lwb) and if all i have to do is jsut swap, i'd rather do that than chop up and solder it together!!!

you will have to shorten the crewcab frame.. from my measurements the crewcab will come to just infront of the rear tires on the reg cab frame... should be enough for tire clearance, even a set of large tires... but not enough room for a standard shortbed... however, you could put the crewcab on the reg cab frame and then cut down the shortbed to a super-shortbed.. and make it work.. the fuel inlet will be a bit of a trick..of course, a blazer/burb tank would make a good mod, while you have the bed off...

i cut 14" out of the frame in front of the bed, and 5" off the tail end of the frame, so the bed would set all the way down on the frame. if you take a 6' bed and center it on a crew cab frame, the two center bed bolts will line up, and you can figure measurements. i had a short bed truck sitting next to mine, and i took over an hour making sure my measurements were right. you have to figure in the space between the cab and bed also. I just measured mine using the rear cab mount bolt as a reference, it was about 9" from the center of the bolt to where the frame was cut. I was also changing mine to 1/2 ton, which is a little work on the rear end. because you have to use 1/2 ton leaf spring hangers for a 1/2 ton rear end.
