body lines
anyone ever notice that body lines and contours vary greatly between trucks?i'm doing body work on my 72 gmc cab on upper rear pillers. shaveng gas filler and dents at top of box.i took a contour gauge out to my 67 and 72 chev to check the profiles to duplicate. the differance is unbelivable from truck to truck at almost every point compared though not visable to the naked eye. just thought i'd share this and wondering if anyone else has noticed

yup.I did a patch on the inside of a stock door I bought using the same section from another stock door.There were differences,but nothing that will cause trouble.

I never noticed that. Of course the only repair work I've done was down low on these trucks. I did shave the filler neck on mine, but I just fabbed the panel to fit. I wonder if the difference was tooling at different plants.

I just put a 68 clip on my 72 Blazer and WOW, way off. the 72 fit perfect with no shime, etc, unbolt pull, and drop 68 on and now I am in for some fun. I need to slot the mounting holes to get anything near lining up and the fender stick out obaut a quarter inch again with no shims. Yeah, pressed parts over time and accidents, yadda yadda. This is exactly why people complain about repop stuff not fitting. It's not the fault of the part, NOS fits the exact same way. Nothing falls on, they all need persuassion and some need a big F'in hammer!!

Yup, I've noticed the body lines don't quite match, too. But I'm not going to complain, it came factory that way.

The tolerances on these truck I believe were +/-0.2 which is about 3/16 of an inch. I've measured stock truck doors before where one door was 1/4" wider than the other. Tolerances on these old vehicles suck. I know people complain that the repop stuff "don't fit" and you've proven what I've tried to explain before.... original stuff don't fit either
