step side questions

i recently picked up a set of 68 step side fenders and i have some questions about the step side box's.
Did the size of the box change atall over the years lets say 55-72?
i want to know if i can take an older than 67-72 step box and put 68 fenders on it?
Thanks!

Re: step side questions

The sides/boxes are the same dimension from the 50's up till 1987. However, there are some differences. Where the fenders mount, how the steps mount, stake pocket length, and where the rear mounting points are. There is a FAQ about modifing a 73-87 bed to work with the stock 67-72 fenders/steps.

Re: step side questions

55-72 are the same except for what Palf mentioned. It is do-able,and I think easier than with`73-87s.Are your steps and pocet channels useable?

Re: step side questions

i dont have the steps. i was driving somewhere one day and i saw what i thought was a 67-72 gas tank sitting behind a chain link fence in someones front yard... so i checked it out and there was a gas tank two cowls left and right front inner and outer fenders and the two rear step fenders.
there seems to be alot of old step beds made into trailers in my town that are just sitting in peoples yards so i will have to ask around and see if i can get one cheep.
thanks for the knowledge boys!
