Hood cable help...

I went out today to fix my horns that only work when they feel like it, I was going to redo those connections and maybe even put on new horns since I had some around. I go to pop my hood snap goes the cable. One problem always leads to another haha. Anyways I was just wondering, how do I open the hood, and how do I change the cable itself I was trying to check it out on the parts truck but I don't see how to open the hood with the cable broken. I might just take it into work and have one of the guys do it. Anyways, thanks for help in advance.

Re: Hood cable help...

I had a similar problem myself. I got a peice of 1/4 round stock and bent 2 90 deg bends to get in behind the hood latch and poped it open from the back side of the latch. Since you have a parts truck you could use it to help decide where to make the bends. I did have to take a flat pry bar to pry up the hood just enough to get the round stock under it. Hope this helps some.

Re: Hood cable help...

If all else fails drop the driver's side fender well and reach up inside and pop the hood. I first would look through the grille and see if you can reach the hood latch piece as noted in the answer above.

Re: Hood cable help...

my hood wouldnt open one time either.. so i had to pry up the hood and i ended up cutting the cable and housing.. and hood opened. not sure why or how but it worked.. just had to replace cable.. housing is still ok, just in 2 pieces now.. maybe you could try cutting the housing and seeing if you can find the rest of the cable, and pull in it.. unless it broke right at the hood latch..
