bed floor rib dimensions?

A friend of mine is looking for some bed-floor panels to replace the floor in the back of his Corvair Van. He's interested in the Goodmark bed floor repair panel 4143-731-67, but I'm having a hard time finding out what the rib dimensions are.

His original floors have a 1.25" high section, 1.25" low section, and a 1/4" transition section for a total pattern distance of 3".

I checked the bed of my 87 GMC, and the high section is too big. You can see in the picture that the high section is almost 1 5/8". He seems to think that the 67-72 style will work, but before I order them for him, I want to be sure.

So anyway, does anybody know what size the floor ribs are?

Thanks

back to the top for the evening crew. Is anybody with a 67-72 willing to measure the bed for me?

Re: bed floor rib dimensions?

If I remember and no one has posted by tomorrow I will check mine sometime tomorrow for ya but I am thinking that 67-87 all had the same pattern except for minor differences on the way they end at the tailgate, but I have been wrong before... Once!

Re: bed floor rib dimensions?

I would agree (after all why would GM change something so basic?), but Goodmark lists separate panels for each generation, so there is some sort of difference in them. These panels are just the ribbed section, no end pieces that would vary from one model to the next.

Re: bed floor rib dimensions?

I went to check out a buddy's 67, but he's got a wood floor.

Is somebody with a metal floor willing to measure for me? I'm trying to verify that the "high" spot is 1 1/4", the "low" spot is 1 1/4" and the transitions are 1/4".

It would be a big help. Thanks.

Re: bed floor rib dimensions?

Seems to me and don't hold me to it, the corvair vans and regular vans shared the same type ribs. I have a chevy van but it is packed and blocked in the back of my shop. Otherwise I would check it out. the memory is that the guy I got my van from said he redid his bed in the corvair with one out of a 65 chevy parts van

Re: bed floor rib dimensions?

I had a similar discussion with a friend, and we also agreed that it's unlikely that GM used a different pattern for the trucks than the vans. The less tooling GM had to do, the better off they were.

Hopefully somebody will be willing to verify the dimensions for me on their truck.

Re: bed floor rib dimensions?

I just went and measured my 67. Except for the rust holes, it is the same measure you have pictured in your original post. I'll post a pic if you would prefer.

Re: bed floor rib dimensions?

I bought a replacement floor panel section not that long ago, can't remember exactly who I bought it from. I wanted to try one. I can tell you that it is not a great match to an original 67-72 floor. So, while you can measure the floor of a 67-72 truck, the replacement panel your friend buys isn't exactly the same. They are junk, in my opinion. Thin gauge, poor quality and the lines don't match worth anything. Not sure if it's just the company that made the one that I bought or what, but I think Goodmark is the only company making these, so that will probably be the case wherever your friend buys his patch from. If it turns out that the 67-72 truck ribs are a perfect match, I would highly recommend your friend go to a junkyard and buy a hunk of floor from a junk bed, or buy a piece from somebody on here.

A pic would be great. Goodmark lists 2 different part numbers, so there's got to be something different about them.
