Re: Starters MINI?REG

I use the newer Delco mini starters, I wouldn't use anything else after trying them.

, and as I remember, you need new bolts to make them work with older blocks.

Re: Starters MINI?REG

It is one of the Chevy 1500 starters I think. Maybe 89?
I bought the CVR starter and WOW it is great!
Easy install, fits everything, and starts the motor faster and
with ease. And that sound o that sound......

Re: Starters MINI?REG

Yes they do take different bolts. The starter is used in the 4.3 V6 Vortec. Just order the starter bolts for that engine. I paid $85 for my last starter new not a rebuild.

Re: Starters MINI?REG

You have to buy the bolts through a parts store. They have a special design to load properly. Here's where I've bought the starter and bolts.

Sounds cool starting, and I think mine turns the engine faster than my last car idled.

Sorry don't know about for big blocks -- I've never seen these types of starters reman'd.

Re: Starters MINI?REG

SR I would think you have the 168 tooth flywheel/flexplate They are 14", The 153 tooth is a 12" fly/flexplate.

Re: Starters MINI?REG

I purchase a GM PMGR (permanent magnet reduction) starter for my Ramjet-350. It only fits 168-tooth 14" flywheels. It looks like an original GM starter, only a bit smaller and ALOT lighter. Its also recommended for the BBC engines. It fits nice, clears my hedman headers, and looks completely OEM.
P/n=9000852 for the starter
P/n=12338064 bolts for the starter, 2 EACH required
----
I cant speak yet for reliability or performance, I havent even started the engine yet. :-(

Re: Starters MINI?REG

Hitachi, and Powermaster also make mini starters. They are much lighter and a lot easier to install.
